Here is another way to look at it.
Country: Number of cases per one million
US is almost twice as bad as the worst Euro country.

You say with some surprise. "So Europe is the leader with the most deaths. I did not know that." You also quoted, "Europe accounts for a fifth of the world's more than 15 million cases and remains the hardest hit in terms of deaths, with 207,118 out of more 630,000 globally since the pandemic emerged in China late last year."
I saw the same article, but its misleading, it implies the US isn't as bad as Europe. Look how many deaths they have!
---- No, we're far worse. Europe and the US are very different populations.
The population of the US is 328 million
The population of Europe is 747 million
Do the math....
Number of covid deaths in the US 156K (one out of every 2102 of the total population)
Number of covid deaths in Europe 207K (one out of every 3608 of the total population)
There are lots of ways to express this, but you can see the math. The US has > 50% more deaths per capita.
