  • What are some key features of TheLion.com forums?
    • TheLion.com has been the pioneer in financial discussion forums since the early days of Internet. We recognize the importance of having a highly integrated discussion platform. Our platform is custom built for financial savvy users and incorporates various financial tools at your finger tip. Customization such as filters and alerts to help users achieve quality forums discussions. We are constantly updating and rolling out new features so feel free to let us know about anything.
  • What are trader forums and stock forums?
    • Trader forums are forums started and operated by members of the community. Stock forums are initiated and maintained by TheLion.com and is organized based on stock ticker. Currently the most popular trader forum is Wall Street Pit hosted by Lionmaster. To see a list of all the trader forums, click on the Forum tab above. To go to a stock forum, enter the stock ticker symbol after you click the Forum tab.
  • Is it free to use the forum including posting and reading messages?
    • Yes. Posting and reading message postings are free. However, we charge approximately $0.01 USD (one penny) if you wish to endorse a message or search for message postings. These features are optional.

Managing Forum

  • Can I create my own trader forum? Is it free?
    • Yes. It's free to create your own trader forum and you can customize it to fit your requirements. Our trader forum can be customized as follows:
      • Display thread or flat message listing
      • Assign cohosts to help you maintain the forum
      • Assign guru status to any of your forum members
      • Support tagged or favorite messages and threads
      • Access control like delete message, locking threads, suspend and ban abusive users, etc
      • Customization like location of tagged message, stock ticker, etc
      • Alerts for host and cohosts
      • and many others ...
  • What are cohosts and gurus?
    • Cohosts are assigned by the forum host to help run and maintain the forum. They have the power to delete messages and ban users. Gurus are special status symbols given to forum members by the forum host. If you are interested in becoming a cohost, email your forum host for approval.
  • How do I promote my forum?
    • Hosting a forum is a serious responsibility. If you are serious about it, email us for more detail.

Posting Message

  • Do you have any rules on posting messages?
    • There is no definate rules but you must follow our Agreement & Disclaimer. In general, no obscene, insulting, or inappropriate remarks, excessively posting i.e. spamming on stocks or subjects, posting misleading info, self promotions or advertising. Violations will lead to temporary user suspension or permanent account termination. Also, your forum host and cohosts can suspend or temporarily restrict posting privilege in their forums at any time.
  • Why I can't post message in the forum?
    • You probably posted something that is forbidden in the forum and was suspended by the host or cohost. You need to email thehost or cohost about lifting your posting restriction.
  • How do I include a chart or picture to my posting?
    • First, you need to upload your chart or picture to a one of many free online sites outside TheLion.com. Find the URL to that picture (example: http://www.thelion.com/webimages/forumlogo1.gif) then in your message posting just enter it as [IMG]http://www.thelion.com/webimages/forumlogo1.gif[/IMG]. You can include smiley from an external site as well. If you want this picture to appear on all of your postings (like a signature), you can add the picture to your signature under My Setting. Remember you can also preview your message before posting it.
  • How do I correct a mistake in a message I posted already?
    • At the bottom of the message you already posted, click on the Revise link to revise your message. Your original message will be replaced by the revised version; however, it is still available for reading and reference.
  • Can I reply to the message privately instead of posting to the forum?
    • Yes. Click on Private link instead of Reply or Post link. Clicking on Private allows you to enter your reply as an email to the author of the message posting.

Reading Message

  • How do I thank someone for good posting or help?
    • As a token of gratitude, you can give reward to any forum members by using the Reward User feature available at the bottom of the message or you can click on his/her profile and click on the Reward User button. In addition, you can also leave a positive feedback and thank him or her personally in the feedback comment section. The rewards and positive feedbacks you give will help increase the reputation of those members. Last but not least, you can also endorse message postings to promote quality message content across to other members who might also benefit from it.
  • How do I promote a message that I feel other people should know?
    • At the bottom of the message, click on the Endorse link. Endorsing a message will help draw members' attention to that message posting.
  • Why are some member's names highlighted or in bold face?
    • The bold face to their names is to recognize those members' generous financial support to TheLion.com. TheLion.com is supported by members like yourself. If you feel TheLion has contributed to your financial learning and well-being and wish to help out with a donation, please click here to donate. Thank you!
  • What does the symbol and next to member's name mean?
    • The symbol indicates that the member's stock portfolio has been updated within the last 30 days. For portfolio with exceptional result, this icon is used instead. Next to the icon is a percentage showing his or her portfolio performance. If you like to participate in our free stock portfolio, just click on the Portfolio tab above. Be sure the read the Portfolio FAQ first to understand the rules.
  • How do I report poster who made excessive inappropriate postings?
    • If the message contains any kind of attack or inappropriate remarks _against_ you, please do not reply back with your own remarks because both of you could be suspended indefinately. Instead, email us at webmaster@thelion-inc.com promptly with the URL or link to the message in question so that we can take care the matter according to the rules i.e. suspend the account. If the remark is not directed at you, feel free to use the Report Abuse link at the bottom of the message. For severe violation, feel free to email us at webmaster@thelion-inc.com. Your help is greatly appreciated!
  • How do I know if someone replied to my message?
    • If you have not read the replied message yet, our alert system will email you automatically any unread replies so you don't have to worry about missing out on any discussions thereafter.
  • How do I change the message index list to flat or thread listing?
    • On the top of the message index/list screen, there is a pull down menu to choose either Flat View or Thread View. The default view is chosen by the forum host but you can overwrite it with your own preference. Thread view is great way to quickly scan the forum for all the recent discussions.

Customizing Message

  • How do I create my own icon or animated picture next to my name?
    • Go to My Setting and upload your picture or animated gif. You can find just about any gif by google it. Or if you don't mind, you can always upload something personal that you created yourself or directly from your webcam or digital camera.
  • How do I create a signature so it always get appended at the end of my message posting?
    • Go to My Setting and put something in your signature.
  • How do I add a message to my list of favorite messages under my own account?
    • Click on the Bookmark link at the bottom of the message will add the message to your bookmark. You can manage your bookmark under My Setting.
  • How do I pay more attention to certain members and get alerted whenever he/she posts a new message?
    • At the bottom of the message, you can click a link called Watch User. The member's name will now be highlighted in green in all postings. In addition, under the User tab, you can check message postings from all of your watched users. Also, when you select Watch User, you get to choose whether to receive an instant email alert whenever he/she posts a new message. This is a great way to get notified.
  • How do I get an instant email alert whenever there are discussions based on certain stock symbols?
    • At the bottom of the message, click on a link called Watch next to the name of the stock symbol. All discussions related to this stock symbol will now get you email alerts. At the same time, all postings that contains this symbol will now get highlighted.
  • How do I ignore all the messages from a poster?
    • At the bottom of the message, you can click a link called Ignore User. When the user is ignored, you will not see his or her messages anywhere in the forum.
  • How do I undo my watched or ignored user?
    • Under My Setting, you can choose Change Your Preference and from there you can undo any watched or ignored settings.

Others

  • How do I improve my reputation in the community?
    • Reputation is built overtime. In general, if you contribute positive discussions all the time, you will get noticed. Members will reward you for your efforts or give you good feedbacks. Some of the things you can do are: participate in a positive manner, offer insights and knowledge, contribute in stock picks, help answer questions, assist the newbies, participate in your portfolio, or donate to TheLion.com, etc. Remember that your reputation is earned and developed over time.
  • How do I know who to trust or follow? There are so many messages postings and members!
    • Just hang out for a while and observe. Look at the user's reputation, guru status, portfolio performance, etc. Never blindly follow or listen to anyone and always take message postings with grains of salt. Learn to do your own due diligence. Empower yourself!
  • What are the meaning of the lingo or acronyms like HOD, RTQ, DD, etc?
    • Here are the terms commonly used at TheLion.com:
    • ADR = american depository receipt; for foreigner stocks to be listed here
    • AH = after hour trading
    • ALIAS = user id
    • ARB = arbitrage
    • BAGGER (ex: 3 BAGGER) = increment of 100% gain
    • BIG BOYS = large mutual funds or institutional investors
    • BOOM = stock breaking out
    • BRB = be right back
    • BTW = by the way
    • BUMP = bring up the posting for attention
    • CASH COW = company generating significant cash flow from business
    • CC = conference call
    • CF = cash flow
    • CPI = consumer price index
    • DD = due diligence (Research)
    • DODOBIRD = stupid daytraders
    • EBITA = earnings before interest, depreciation and amortization
